Month of February 2014 – Training Recap

February!  A short month, and for me, a super tough month!

Total Road KMs : 60 kms

Total Trail KMs : ~140 kms

KMs raced during January : 8 kms with 21.1 km pacing First Half, and 32 km trail race as a training run.  So technically 61.1 kms “raced”

Total KMs this month : 200 kms

Total KM’s this year : 358 kms

Hours running :  26 ish

Cross-training hours (Spinning, Grinds, Strength training) : 0!

# of Grinds/BCMC’s : 0 – Grind closed, and didn’t get up BCMC

How’s my month been?

I thought February was going to be a much better month than January, but it really wasn’t.  I’d rate it a C+ on the whole for a training month, maybe even a C.

February was so tough for me.  It started off with a disaster of a PW at the Icebreaker 8K race, and 2 weeks later at the Vancouver First Half my foot injury became unbearable on pavement and forced me to completely get off the road.

And while my heart is happier on the trails, with living in Burnaby and working in Richmond, I just can’t get on the trails on a daily basis so it makes for training to be interesting.

It was a really busy month.  I’m still adjusting to working 2 different “part-time” jobs, getting everything I need done, getting enough training in and enough rest, and not neglecting my fun hobbies – you know this silly blogging thing I do!  It hasn’t been easy to find the right balance yet, it’s still new, and it’s still a learning experience.  I am enjoying getting out on the trails during the week more often, and being able to run with new people, or people I don’t get to see as much.  I made new friends off Instagram this month to run with, which was pretty awesome.

I also ended the month on a high note, making a breakthrough and realizing I’ve been in a body, healthy habits, and weight loss slump, so I felt much better going into March on a positive and not letting January & February’s negativeness bleed into March.

And, I also had so much fun running the muddiest, muckiest race ever at Lord Hill with Melissa and Shea.  We ended up doing the 2 loop, 32 km course, and it was such a positive race to change around my racing so far in 2014.

Let’s check in on the goals I set going into this month…

February Goals?  Sigh.  I think I’m going to be smart again, and keep goals on the back burner for February, just not feeling it.  Not feeling like goal setting right now is a positive thing for me.

So, I didn’t set goals.  Partially a good thing for me, partially super stupid because goals and deadlines are what push and drive me to do better.

Oh well.  Let’s set some March goals instead (yes I know I’m finally posting this on March 10th, but still)

  • I weighed myself on Feb 26th at 175, and I’d like to be at 165 by March 31st.  I think that’s doable because I’m already done to 170 today (March 10th)
  • I’d like to do some more incline walking on the treadmill, to get some hill training in that is specific to ultra running, and recommended by Murph.  I’d like to do a minimum of 20 miles uphill walking this month on the treadmill.
  • I want to heal my foot and be smart about running in between prolo injections (next one is March 25th)
  • I want to keep using my juicer, and enjoying the juice on a regular basis.
  • I just want to leave March feeling as good as I entered it.  I want this to be the first more positive than negative month of the year for me.
  • March is such a busy month, as I talked about here, and I just want to stay happy, healthy, and productive, all month long.  Oh and have a bunch of fun too!

How was your February?  Was it a tough month for you too, or did you feel like you had a strong month?

xoxo
